Social Work ValuesStudent’s Name:University Affiliation:
Introduction
As social work requires specific values that support the practice and make the profession distinctive form others. Values have been reinforced by introduction of set of standards and codes of practice that must be followed by all registered social workers. Holding these values during practice protects public and more importantly the patients. The most important values that guide a social worker include respect, hope and partnerships.
Respect
Respect entails upholding the dignity and value of the individual. A social worker is required to handle every individual in a caring and deferential way, considering patients' differences and cultural diversities (NASW Delegate Assembly, 2008). Respect is morally important during our daily interactions in mental health work. Victims who perceive as being treated with respect may have experiences of improved health outcomes and better satisfaction with the caring process. Some clients have demonstrated more value to the respect they receive from social workers than what is done to solve their problems. The principle of respect is drawn from the recognition of the inherent dignity and equality of human beings, which serves as the foundation for freedom, justice, and peace. Respects calls for social support workers to treat each person as unique, ready to defend the dignity of every stage of human life. The principle of demonstrating respect suggests a moral obligation to be responsive, respectful, patient, tolerant, or civil to different people, at all times and different contexts.
