Abstract
The crime rate has been increasing in the United States in the past five years. In Nebraska, the crime rate has been low, but in the past five years, some fluctuations have been noticed in crime rate trends. This study examines the crime rate in Omaha City in comparison to other five cities in Nebraska in the last five years. This research is both quantitative and qualitative, with the rate of change calculated and used to determine the effectiveness of the chief’s strategy. Based on archival records and documents sources, this research looks into the crime rate in Nebraska’s six cities including Aurora, Lincoln, Valley, Central City, Ashland, and Omaha Cities. The data obtained from the https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s is recorded and the rate of change calculated. The results indicate that crime has been decreasing in Omaha and the other cities in Nebraska. This research concludes that Omaha’s chief’s strategy is effective because the rate of crime has been significantly reducing in the past five years except for 2015 when the number went up by about 4 percent.

Research Paper on Crime Rate Trend in Omaha, Nebraska
Introduction
Criminologists and sociologists have always focused on the geographical distribution and the determinants linked to urban crime for decades. They believe that crime emanates from the social stress and conflicts and that the level of crime in the neighborhood is highly determined by the geographic as well as socioeconomic contexts. Like many states in the U.S. Nebraska has witnessed increased crime rate in the past two years. Despite being low in the previous decades, statistics on crime level shows that Nebraska was hit by the devastating crime phenomenon in 2015 and 2016. Despite the leadership effectiveness and strategies to curb crime, the whole Nebraska witnessed serious crime-related problems in 2015 which increased the crime rate in 2016 by 2 percent. This study aims at looking at the effectiveness of the Nebraska police department in responding to the crime incidences in the past five years. Based on qualitative case study design, this paper examines the crime rate in Omaha City, Nebraska to facilitate development of proper interventions to help reduce crime level.
Literature Review
Research shows that the number of crimes report to Nebraska police department has been fluctuating, with a slight increase in 2015. According to Ricketts and Fisher (2016), there was 9.1% decrease in crime in 2015, but also rose in 2016. For many years, Nebraska has been known to have experienced the most increased incarceration rate in the U.S between 2009 and 2014 (Abdullah, 2016). According to Abdullah (2016), the analysis of U.S. prison population trend between 1999 to 2014 shows that Nebraska is among the top leading states with the highest incarceration rates with about 21.7% of the prison population in the U.S. Omaha City has tried to make interventions through policy frameworks to help reduce the rate of crime and eventually the number of incarcerated. According to Abdullah (2016), the amendment of the LB 690 to LB 910 aimed at reducing the number of incarcerated to decongest the prisons. The amendment aimed at changing the provisions of the parole administration. However, with the high incarceration rate, it means that the crime levels are also up because people cannot be arrested and jailed without committing a crime.
