Abstract
The aim of this paper is to explore the reliability and utilization of the diagnostic marker Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2 (LpPLA2) for humans with suspected cardiovascular or cerebral vascular conditions or predispositions. The design is a multi-database literature search to evaluate the impact of Lipoprotein-Related Phospholipase A2 based upon a collective assessment of systematic and meta-analytical data. The methods used included producing Five papers, which supported the literature review using the Ling 101 paper rubric. The analysis incorporated PubMed and the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) literature references. This process developed a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Assessments and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) along with physical exploration created a flow diagram for reporting an evidence-based minimum set of items for this literature review of LpPLA2 (Moher et al., 2009). The literature findings suggest LpPLA2 is a vascular incident predictor, post-event prognostic measurement tool, and probability marker of subsequent events. This paper concludes that LpPLA2 is an efficacious inflammatory marker and should be a standard addition to vascular evaluations along with other serological markers. Clinical relevance demonstrates that the standard lipid panel and other vascular markers can be expanded based upon the utilization of LpPLA2, including mass and activity (PLAC® mass test and activity test), as a shift in the standard of care. Differences in mass and activity will require future studies for ongoing clinical understanding.
