How are millennials distinct from Boomers and Gen-Xers according when it comes to diversity?
Generation Y popularly referred to as Millennials are a group of individuals born between 1980-95. Unlike the Boomers and the Gen-Xers, millennials strive to have inclusivity within their social and occupational ranks. Their view on diversity is a result of success from experimentation of programs directed at promoting diversity. This does not mean that the Boomers and the Gen-Xers are indifferent to diversity. They are credited with the research and introduction of the ideology. What distinguishes them from the millennials is the application stage and the change in diversity within the said age group. For instance, Caucasian individuals only make up 59 percent of the total population, while immigrants are 27 percent. It is not uncommon to walk into an office and find a workforce full of diversity unlike the former two generations. It is estimated that by 2025, over 75 percent of the workforce will comprise of millennials. This is likely to see an increase in the tolerance index for diversity. This assumption is based on preemptive studies which have labeled millennials as being tolerant and receptive of a diverse workforce.
