Global Warming
The planet earth has experienced the devastating effects of global warming for a long time. Much more effects are still anticipated to come shortly if appropriate actions are not taken. A moderate increase in the climate of the Earth due to the greenhouse effect defines global warming. The major causes of global warming are air pollutants and carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere through human activities, which absorb sunlight and solar radiation reflected on the Earth's surface (Ortiz, 2018). In most instances, the radiation would disappear into space; however, the pollutants may take longer in the air and trap heat, thus, making the planet hotter. According to data by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), there has been an increase in annual temperature since Industrial Revolution by over 1 degree Celsius (Denchak, 2017). This increase in world temperature has led to tremendous effects on Earth. For instance, rise in sea levels and economic downfall in most countries. Therefore, the world should be more active in getting global warming under control because it causes rising sea levels, is the reason why natural disasters are becoming more prevalent, and negatively affects the global economy.
The world should play a significant role in controlling global warming to reduce rising sea levels. Climate change and how a changing climate may affect the ocean have attracted many researchers across the world. Most Americans live in coastal states, which implies that sea levels may adversely affect this population (Bressan, 2021). NASA's global climate records indicated a four to five inches increase in global sea level from 1900 to 1990 (Bressan, 2021). Also, a three inches rise in sea level was observed between the years 1990 and 2015. Sea level is rising today by one-eighth of an inch annually and is anticipated to grow in the future.
Global warming is the leading cause of rising sea levels. It causes an increase in sea levels in various ways. First, global warming causes ice sheets and glaciers to melt and add water to the ocean. Secondly, higher temperatures resulting from global warming cause ocean water to warm, which leads to the expansion of the volume of the sea (Bressan, 2021). Another
