The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is a novel written by Stephen Chbosky which tells a story of what it is like to grow up in high school. The title of the novel is about the main Character who is also presented as the protagonist named Charlie. Perks are special benefits enjoyed by people who belong to a particular group or have a specific job. Likewise, a Wallflower describes a person who remains in the sidelines at an event or party (Monaghan, 2016). This paper is going to discuss whether the movie promotes realistic or unrealistic social norms for teenagers.
Charlie is depicted as an introverted guy who does not talk much and shares spaces with less people. Evidently for him, life has regular time-outs, which incapacitating for the time, agitate the concoction of emotions which makes him grasp the reality. Unfortunately, he was molested by his aunt, who was his favorite person in the world. This kind of life is hell for a regular person but the pain is not obvious. Not even his parents know half of his scarring life moments, he is scrapping through putting on a calm façade (Monaghan, 2016).
The words “my life is an afterschool special”, spoken by the character Patrick, summarizes the dynamics of the relationships portrayed in the movie.
