Abstract
The United States, Russia, and China are among the powerful nations with experiences of sex trafficking. According to the human trafficking reports, the United States is in tier 1 while both China and Russia are in tier 3. This means that they are in different levels according to the international standards of dealing with the global problem. Each of the countries has been involved in different initiatives and regulations, at the policy level, to address the rampant problem. By comparing and contrasting the policy implications of sex trafficking in the three countries, it will be possible to know what each of them has been doing to stop traffickers as well as to protect victims of sex trafficking.
Sex Trafficking
How deep is the sex trafficking problem globally? This is a question that law enforcement agencies, governments, and other major stakeholders continue to interrogate to find lasting solutions. In the United States, sex trafficking has been a huge problem for law enforcement authorities and NGOs. It is estimated that at least 15,000 women and girls are introduced to sex slavery every year (Deliver Fund, 2020). In China, information released by the Supreme People’s Court showed that there were 538 cases of sex trafficking prosecuted in 2020 (U.S Department of States, 2021). In 2018, 50 victims of sex trafficking were identified by authorities in Russia (U.S Department of States, 2021). It is difficult to get the exact number of women forced into sex trafficking because of the way traffickers carry out their criminal activities. They conduct their criminal enterprises through sophisticated channels to escape the wrath of the law. There are many cases that do not get identified, thus contributing to the complicated nature of sex
