Sexual Harassment in the Hospitality Industry (Research Paper Sample)

Instructions:

Sexual harassment at any level in the hotel industry is costly, both financially - with employees suing for or winning large sums of money through courts or arbitration - and in terms of lost productivity. Sexual harassment may be harmful to individuals, resulting in a loss of morality and success. However, defining sexual harassment is difficult because various people have varying expectations. While some view sexual assault as harmless horseplay, others view it as a betrayal of dignity. In this generation, sexual harassment is described as any unwanted or unwelcome sexual conduct that offends or humiliates a person. Sexual harassment is a pernicious part of everyday life for many people in the hospitality industry. It affects people regardless of their age, relation, ability, physical appearance, history, or gender.
The hospitality social partners place a higher premium on issues of bullying and harassment by third parties in their efforts to improve working conditions because sexual harassment can hurt not only direct victims but also their families, coworkers, and the entire society. Waiters and other frontline employees tend to be the most vulnerable occupational groups, with nearly half of all respondents reporting such experiences. Sexually suggestive remarks, offensive words, and jokes are all common forms of violence. Sexual harassment has a high material and immaterial cost due to the wide range of adverse effects it causes, ranging from psychological damage to legal payment firms

Sexually suggestive remarks, offensive words, and jokes are all common forms of violence. Sexual harassment has a high material and immaterial cost due to the wide range of adverse effects it causes, ranging from psychological damage to legal payment firms (Ineson, Yap & Whiting, 2013, p. 1-9).
