Same-Sex Marriage
In essence, one can define same-sex marriage as the unification of two people of the same gender in matrimony. Significantly, this type of marriage is limited only to certain jurisdictions since many governments have rejected the bid to accept legally homosexual marriages. However, activist and interest groups have taken up the mantle to lobby for a change about sexuality rights. Moreover, what used to be viewed as a taboo in the nineties with 68% opposing it has gradually changed with recent polls conducted in 2011 indicated that approximately 53% of Americans supported same-sex marriage (Corvino & Gallagher, 2012).
Principally, same-sex marriage will help give identity and reduce confusion in terms of couples and responsibilities that involve legal processes. For instance, in a case where two individuals such as John and James wed, and unfortunately John dies then James can be allowed to inherit John’s wealth. However, denying such people the right to marry and attain the proper documents only results to confusion when certain events beyond man’s control occur (Corvino & Gallagher, 2012). Therefore, there is need to allow and accept same-sex marriage to help ease the confusion that arises. Concurrently, when trying to oppose love history teaches us that involved parties will even go against the norm to be together hence the need to define these relationships.
Change is inevitable. In essence, society can try to battle change in social behavior but trends such as same-sex marriage will have their say at the end. Significantly, research shows that a large portion of today’s society has no problem with same-sex marriage (Hardy, 2013). Furthermore, with the world increasingly becoming a global village activist who are pro-same sex marriage can quickly gunner support. Similarly, with a large portion of the population in the world being youths, it is easy for this group to comprehend the need to respect individual choices, however, absurd or awkward they appear (Gus, 2013). Concurrently, instead of one getting frustrated by an unstoppable force he/she can opt to prepare for a society that embraces same-sex marriage.
Significantly, the major religions and even traditions have always been against same-sex marriage. In essence, the values postulated by most doctrines relate same-sex marriage as an unethical and sinful behavior (Spilsbury, 2012). On a similar note, with most believers associating the practice to sin one can argue that same-sex couples will face segregation if not discrimination. Moreover, the recent bill passed in North Carolina show that already individuals who are against the act are not willing to accept same-sex marriages as a healthy marriage (Sargent, 2015). In essence, as long as same-sex marriage is on a collision course with society’s values then the opposition is absolute.
Conclusion
In principle, without the rule of law society can fall into anarchy. Furthermore, fighting change is a lost course. However, there is need to attain equilibrium between cultural shift and society’s traditions and customs. Therefore, even with changing technology and s...
