Gazzawe (2017) examines the difference between web and mobile applications on e-learning. The authors find that mobile applications have better functionality due to supportive features in mobile phones. Mobile applications have address books, geolocation, scroll functionality, cameras, geolocation, etc. Mobile applications are cost-effective, and most of them don't necessarily require an internet connection. On the other hand, websites have a low technical barrier since they utilize existing technologies. In e-learning, websites are ideal as they are compatible with every device, which increases flexibility for the users irrespective of the device they are utilizing. Unlike mobile applications, updates made on websites do not necessitate for third party's approval and can be developed in real-time in contrast to mobile applications, which need to undergo a series of approvals. The preference on which is superior depends on various factors, including costs, type of content, user-friendliness, flexibility, etc.
Native mobile applications are developed to fit in a specific platform, i.e., android or iOS. Mobile apps have access to system resources, and they live and run on the devices they are installed. Examples of mobile apps include Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, and Google maps. Web applications are not native to one system; therefore, need not be downloaded. Web applications are responsive in nature; consequently, they can adapt to the device's size.
The importance of developing a mobile strategy
A mobile strategy is an approach to integrating mobile devices into the enterprise strategy. The average mobile conversion rates are up 64% compared to desktop conversion. Since a mobile design has a higher conversion rate, its therefore important for the business. An enterprise mobility strategy is holistic, indicating that it incorporates business, technology, and the governance aspects of mobility. Research shows that 25% of people check their mobile devices 11 – 20 times a day, and 51% check their devices at least 1-10 times a day. A mobile strategy would help a business create new revenue channels. The approach can help a business increase the return on investment for existing channels as the mobile apps provide several monetization strategies (Ozuem & Mulloo, 2018). For example, gamification can help the business augment relationships and revenue for various channels through mobile. When developing a mobile strategy, companies can follow multiple best practices to achieve outstanding success. For example, they have to consider the size of the user devices as they have a limited ability to pinpoint an icon in their finger. The business should make it straightforward for the industry to submit feedback; they should optimize the user onboarding beta test the app before releasing it to the public. They can also integrate app store optimization, add chatbots to provide users with quick and critical information, make the design simple, ensure the CTA is simple, and use push notifications.
Various system mobile functionalities
Today, there are various mobile operating systems, including the blackberry operating system, Apple IOS, Android OS, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile operating system, etc. At the basic level, all mobile operating systems should be able to perform process management, CPU scheduling, memory management, and device management. Memory management should entail allocating and deallocating the memory and distributing the memory while multiprocessing. A system is also supposed to keep security by protecting the files and operations.
Some functionalities of system mobile include push notification, feedback system, ensure effective communication, security, social integration, promote customization, navigation, and payment integration. Navigation is achieved through google maps which means the system need integrations such as a global position system. some mobile operating systems come with a prebuilt payment gateway that would allow users to accept and transfer cash. The system should also enable users to achieve such tasks via an internet connection or will allow the integration of external apps that promote such functionalities. The system should also provide advanced analytics whereby it should understand the user behavior by tracking and measuring user's activity within the applications. For businesses, such functionalities can help improve their marketing strategies and work towards user experience, ultimately benefiting the company. The system should also provide functions such as contacts, messaging, etc.
The social aspect of mobile interfaces.
It's known that the design of a user interface has a significant impact on the users learning time, performance speed, and user satisfaction (Chittaro, 2010). When making the designs, designers, in most cases, try to consider the impact by placing the human in the center of attention, an approach called the human-centered design approach.
