Wireless Networks Name Institution Wireless Networks In the recent years, there has been a progress in the number of readily available designs of wireless LAN or networks. The new wireless network deigns should be centered on a system that covers with less AP count to one that covers uniformly the number of ports needed by the customers (Gert & Gert, 2004). In our scenario (coffee shop) we will need at least 20 wireless connections to access the internet. Twenty is an estimate number of customers who will be using the network. In this case there will be a need to deploy new wireless applications that are capable of accommodating wireless voice. (Bartz, 2009). A majority of today customers are always working while on the move; some will need to send mails while other may need to video conference. Thus the wireless network has to be capable to tolerate jitters and high roaming delays. To meet our customers networking needs, we will be deploying the Wi-Fi wireless LAN. Here, there is a need to enlarge our traditional approaches, starting from locations to design of the installations ((Bartz, 2009)). In this paper, we will therefore be looking at the best applications to be followed in designing and deploying the WLANs in the cafe. Types of Hardware's Types of antenna We can classify the Antennas as; travelling wave antenna, aperture antennas, wire antennas, Micro-strip antennas and reflector antennas. With our WLAN scenario, the parabolic reflector antenna is the most appropriate antenna for transmission. The main reason having been that; it has a very high gain (30-40 dB) and a low cross polarization. The other reason is that it has a high and reasonable bandwidth. Its fractional bandwidth is estimated to be at least 5% on the commercial available models. Other Hardware's We will need: Hubs, switches, routers and access points to allow the users computers to connect to the network. However, all of these hardware's have their own capabilities. Hubs have the capability of allowing the laptops on the network to communicate with each other. Thus, the Hub will be important in forming a LAN. They are the less expensive as compared to other networking devices. The switches can work like the Hubs, but their advantage is in sending multiple and receiving information at the same time. This makes them faster than the Hubs. The purpose of the routers is in allowing the laptop users to communicate with different networks. In our case, the coffee consumer in the coffee shop could be able to communicate and share data with their friends irrespective of where they may be. Lastly, we will have to setup the access points. They will be helping in providing the wireless access to the wired Ethernet network. The access points can just be plugged into the hub, switch or routers and then send out wireless signals. The access points cannot automatically share internet connections, but in order to share internet connections, an access point has to be plugged into a router. Access Point Placement In a coffee shop setting, to realize the full potential of a Cisco Unified Wireless Network, the access points have to be well placed. Conventionally, coffee WLANs access points are distributed through the interior spaces thus providing services to the surrounding working spaces (Bartz, 2009). In our coffee shop scenario, the conditions for the location aware Cisco UWN is known to be flexible. Thus, they are designed to provide locations tracking of any voice installations as per the best Cisco practices. This infrastructure is therefore suitable for any coffee shop setting (Bartz, 2009). This will ensure that the access points are not grouped together in the shop interior while been centered towards the center of the floor. Instead, our outskirts access points will be complementing the access points located within the floor interior. To achieve this, the access points will be placed at the corners of the floor. The access points therefore play the critical role of ensuring that there is a creation of an area of dependability (Bartz, 2009). Objective and Benefits of the WLAN devices The following are some of the benefits of using the advanced WLAN devices in our coffee shop setting: * There will be an increase in productivity from the network resources and improved reliability and availability. * There will be high network performance. This has been achieved through utilizing the new implemented technologies and WLAN devices. * There will be an increase in communication dynamism. * An improvement in our customer's mobility will be noted since deliverance of services is more secured and instant. * With proper planning, design, maintenance, and management of the WLAN in the coffee shop, a reduction of total operational cost of the network and business will be observed (Gert & Gert, 2004). The new coffee shop WLAN design implemented, the performance of the working environment will be optimized. There will be a more secured and stable cost effective technology thus affecting the services offered positively. Thus, it will be able to sustain a spectacular business growth with operational mobility (Gert & Gert, 2004). Security methods to be implemented to maximize the protection of the WLAN Below are some of the methods that we can implement in the coffee shop WLAN to help in securing of the network: RF Site Survey: with this procedure, it will recognize the most constructive location for the access points. This will be helpful in maximizing the WLAN coverage while minimizing any form of interference (Bartz, 2009). This will be done using specialized Cisco equipments. SSID: Service Set Identifier (SSID) is a form of token in the wireless data communication packets. It can be used to identify wireless networks while using ...
