Human life is more important that all other aspects in the society. People work hard and invest their money in health services to ensure they are healthy. However, some situations force people to experience health challenges that affect their lifestyles. Chronic illnesses are feared by most people because they do not have cures. In addition, they are very expensive to manage and require special services from qualified nurses. This discussion presents the perspectives of palliative care.
Palliative care refers to the support required by patients suffering from chronic illnesses to ensure their conditions are managed properly. Chronic illnesses include blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. These diseases have no cures, but they can be managed to ensure the victims do not experience a lot of pain.In addition, health practitioners use various interventions to ensure patients suffering from chronic illnesses access quality services and live normal lives. First, it is necessary for patients, their family members and nurses to understand that chronic diseases have no cure. Their victims will die after suffering for a long time or due to old age or other opportunistic diseases. However, this does not mean that they are supposed to be left to suffer until their death. The society must understand that patients suffering from chronic illnesses are human beings, and they deserve respect, care and access to social services. Therefore, they should be assisted to get proper health care and other services. They are supposed to enjoy life just like other healthy people.
Secondly, palliative care is long term, and this means that people must be prepared to stay with patients for the rest of their lives. It is important to explain that nurses must be committed to ensuring that patients who require palliative care are offered quality services. Nursing is a profession dedicated to ensuring diseases are managed properly, and patients are comfortable with treatment processes. Therefore, palliative care involves understanding the personality of patients and developing a cordial relationship with them. In addition, it involves support from family members and other people involved in the provision of care to patients.
Thirdly, governments should allocate more funds to the ministries responsible for providing health care services. There is sufficient evidence to show that proper palliative care elongates the lives of patients and enable them to live like other people. Therefore, health facilities should get adequate funds to ensure they have all the required equipment, staff and drugs to offer better services.
Lastly, there is limited information that nurses use to offer their services to patients suffering from chronic illnesses. Health researchers should be supported by governments to conduct further research and identify ways of lessen...
