Abstract
The dreams of Martin Luther King, Jr are represented as a memorial statute in Washington, DC. The king had dreams for the equality for all people in the country and thus the designing of the memorial was meant to be a lasting tribute to the legacy left behind by the king and remains as an everlasting memorial to the freedom, opportunity and justice for which he stood. The memorial was erected 48 years after his touchy words “I have a dream” on the steps of Lincoln’s memorial Washington DC. The monument of Martin Luther King Jr. has always remained open to the public and remains the fourth newest memorial for the honor of a non-president and the first in honoring the man of color. He left a legacy as a black American who advocated for the rights of the people by emphasizing on the need of equality. America is a country that houses people from different corners of the world. This was so after the slave trade and the Second World War that made people to be displaced all over. People of different colors and nationalities were discriminated from color and thus those discriminated, especially the blacks had to fight for their rights. The quest for that led to the coming up of many activists. One of the renowned dignitaries is Martin Luther King Jr. His monument is of great impact to faith of the blacks that he fought for equal rights to all. Thus, even though it’s several decades since his death, his memorial stands strong among those of Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, Lincoln and Jefferson’s Memorial. This research paper seeks to underscore why it is important to support the memorial of Martin Luther King, Jr. as a man of color and as a prominent leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Further the paper seeks to justify that African leadership is honored near the mall where other dignitaries’ like Lincoln and Roosevelt monuments are erected.
