Controlled Airplane
Introduction
In the advent of the 20th century, most industrialized countries were more than determined to invent a powered aircraft. Such efforts were now on the threshold of becoming a reality. Wilbur and Orville mostly referred to as the Wright brothers were determined to make a heavier-than-air, crewed, and engine-powered aircraft. The Brothers achieved their dreams by creating a first controlled, heavier-than-air, and engine-powered aircraft with the ability to take off. This paper analysis into the events leading to Wright Brothers’ invention of the first successful aircraft, the trajectory of the Wright Brothers after the invention, the long-lasting effects and justification for being first inventors is crucial in understanding the history of aeronautics.
Events Leading to Invention
In Wright Brothers and their First Flight, Ramesh argues that the Wright Brothers born and raised in Dayton city in Ohio State were the sons of Bishop Milton Wright and Susan Catherine Wright. Their parents were college-educated with an inherent interest in learning. Bishop Milton Wright was an intellectual, whereas his wife had an ingrained love for machines. As Orville notes, their parents were a source of inspiration and encouragement that drove their curiosity into pursuing intellectual endeavors. Despite their academic prowess, both Wilbur and Orville were not privileged to either have a high school diploma or attend college.[Ramesh, O. N. "The Wright Brothers and their First Flight." Resonance 8, no. 12 (2003): 3-4.]
Notably, the Wright Brothers developed an ingrained love for mechanics and flying as they grew up. Lack of an opportunity to achieve college education did not deter them from exploiting their intellectual interests. In 1892, the two brothers opened a bicycle workshop where they fixed and sold bikes as a means of earning a livelihood. Wilbur and Orville’s curiosity and passion for driving novelty saw them manufacture their own bicycle design in the year 1896. Accordingly, the Wright Brothers kept a closer eye on the latest news concerning aeronautics. Following the glider crash that killed Otto Lilienthal, a renowned German aviator, the Wright Brothers blamed inadequate design for the accident.[Ibid 3] [Ramesh, O. N. "The Wright Brothers and their First Flight." Resonance 8, no. 12 (2003): 3-4.]
