ABSTRACT
Smart devices are electronic gadgets that can connect to other devices through networks and wireless protocols such as Wireless Fidelity (WiFi), Bluetooth, and 3G. Smart devices include smartphones, ipads, laptops, and tablets. These devices have greatly affected society and its operations. Smart devices have made lives easier and convenient to most people. These smart devices come with negative effects in the same measure. People in the society today rely on these devices to execute their daily tasks. The dependency on these devices has made human beings slaves of smart devices. In as much as smart devices enable humans execute daily tasks in an easy way, their side effect are costly to humans. Health effects stand out as a problem paused by these devices. Different people have different motives of using smart devices. The motive of use of these smart devices determines the effect it has on one. Use of these gadgets positively yields positive effects. Negative use of these gadgets negatively brings forth negative effects. This research uncovers whether smart devices affect people’s daily lives. This research included thirty people. People who took part had different reasons why they used smart devices. Different people gave different reasons for use of these gadgets and their effects.
INTRODUCTION
Increase in use of smart devices keeps affecting our daily lives. Since the introduction of these devices, their use has gradually changed the way humans interact with the modern world. These gadgets have revolutionized communication. Smart devices provide a platform where people from around the world communicate and share online. The link speeds and downloading capabilities provided by these gadgets give a user reason to embrace their use. Multifunctioning purposes provided by these gadgets affect living positively, as it takes a short time to execute different tasks. Portability of smart devices gives more reason why people embrace use of smart devices. This paper studies the effects of smart devices on the daily lives of humans today.
METHODOLOGY
This research based on quantitative research methods. Primary research based on the thirty people. The research was administered to thirty students by use of questionnaires. The questionnaire had ten questions regarding their interaction with smart devices and their effects. The research took two major angles, the positive effects of smart devices, and their shortcomings on human life. The ten questions summarized effects of smart devices on people. These questionnaires were distributed across all ages in the thirty people. Individuals from varying backgrounds filled this forms to give holistic information. Questionnaires were filled out of experience and use of smart gadgets.
RESULTS
Out of the thirty people that provided feedback, 1% of them had no idea about smart devices. Despite them having smart devices, they used them to call and text only. These 1% of users did not explore features of their smart devices especially smartphones. 60% of users embraced use of smart devices positively. These users appreciated the help they got from smart devices. Smart gadgets influenced their lives positively and aided them performvital operations in their daily lives. This section of users’often used these gadgets for the right purposes and explored them to benefit in the right way. The other 30% of users did not benefit positively from the use of smart devices. This section used smart gadgets in the wrong way and for the wrong purposes. The wrong use of this gadgets resulted to the eventual loss of benefit from them. A questionnaire attached paused simple and straightforward questions that produced the statistics analyzed below. The bar graph shows results of how smart devices have influenced people beneficially, non-beneficially and additionally provides results for individuals with no idea on smart devices.

DISCUSSION
Smart gadgets are beneficial with their right use. Communication stands out as the main benefit of smart gadgets. Online communication connects people from around the world on a common platform. People can additionally search the web for information they need (Shanab and Haddad, 2015, 55). Individuals use smart devices in education. ELearning characterizes the 21st century. Users of smart devices use them to enhance their education and improve in schoolwork (Kumar, 2011, 46). Smart devices are gadgets that give a user output depending on the input. They come with advantages and disadvantages. An individual decides what to retrieve from smart devices. Smart devices have become part of human life. Interaction with smart devices has become intense than interaction with fellow humans. These devices strain the relationships between human beings. People in the society today are lonely because fellow humans are busy with their phones. Face-to-face communication fails by use of smart devices. Loneliness leads to addiction of these smart devices.
Addiction is an effect that will be costly to reverse. Addicts of smart devices eventually develop shyness. Constant use of smart devices kills a person’s self-confidence. Smart devices have lowered the high confidence that was once in people. Less confident people lean on their smart devices for company and satisfaction (Casey, 2012, 5).
