Introduction
Flat White is a coffee shop franchise that was brought to Qatar in 2012 by and Maryam Al-Bader and which has been in operation since then. The franchise prides itself with establishing a brand around the preparation of high-quality coffee that meets international standards. The brand prepares specialty coffee mostly and utilizes global competence in both menus and the preparation methods to appeal to the diversity of its clientele, and its insistence on quality has set it apart in the coffee industry in the country. Since its establishment, the franchise has been constantly profitable annually, and has morphed into a four-branch establishment. To further establish its position in the market, however, there is need for the franchise to scale and expand in the market which is hugely underexploited. The focus of this research is to explore how the franchise can expand in the market and grow it profitability and revenues.
Research Question
To what extent would it be cost-effective for Flat White to extend their number of branches as they expand their territorial area?
Research Methodology
This research made use of two main sources of data—primary and secondary sources. Primary data entailed the collection of primary information regarding the company on the costs and revenues from all the four branches. The primary part also entailed interviewing of the owner of the franchise to get their views and outlook on the company’s performance, the current financial position, and the direction that the company is taking in the future. Regarding secondary data, it was pertinent to analyze their fiscal performance and other nuances that determine financial performance and outlook. But since the franchise is a private company, it was not possible to get this data.
