Rhetorical Analysis on Alt-Right
The Alternative Right (alt-right) is characterized by heavy use of social media and online memes. In that case, the use of Internet has played a significant role in explaining alt-right as a set of far-right ideologies, groups and people whose belief is that white identity is under attack by multicultural forces (“Alt-Right” par. 1). In other words, alt-right supports political correctness and social justice to undermine white individuals and their civilization. Brown brings these issues throughout the essay to show how multicultural forces have interfered with the rights of the whites in society. Initially published by Joel A. Brown, the message remains relevant today. Therefore, it is essential to expound the audience for this article and the way Brown uses modes of persuasion, such as logos, ethos, pathos, and kairos to pass the intended message to its target audience who are the whites.
The target audience for this article would likely be both those who are already interested in individuals’ rights and those who are advocates for social equality worldwide. Considering that the United States is a pretty progressive nation, the readers of this article are likely to be sympathetic to the idea that we should do what we can to fight discrimination and intimidation resulting from race difference and promote social justice. As a matter of fact, Brown makes an effort on the effect of alternative rights on the whites, and why most of the times they participate in the religion of lynching. It is clear when the author stated that radicalized white supremacist ideology breeds ritualized racial violence (Brown par. 2). It supports that racial superiority is the cause of violence that exists between the whites and other races especially blacks in the country. To put it another way, the whites are expected to benefit from this article because it expounds the reasons why they are the cause of the racial violence.
