Research paper outline: Effects of Music on Cognitive Ability
Introduction
Numerous studies have been conducted on how background music influences learning. By relying on these research studies’ findings, one can address the connection between working memory capacity and the presence of music when studying (Dodge and Mensink). However, it is not all music that has a positive impact on memory. This paper evaluates how different genres of music affects retention of memory and the ability to increase concentration, which impacts the learning process when there is music in the background.
The arousal-mood and Mozart effect show that music has the potential to affect cognitive abilities. According to Lehmann & Seufert (2017), the Mozart effect has a direct impact on learning, while the arousal-mood hypothesis causes a mediation effect on mood and arousing parts of the brain. Their study showed that there exists an interaction between the working memory capacity and background music when looking into the comprehension of the study sample.
