Introduction
Eliot is a master of the written craft who has established multiple aspects in his poem “the hollow men”. The poem can be looked at in various ways, but one of the main considerations of the poem is its appendage to the Westland. He includes the attempt to blow up the parliament building in 1605 by Guy Fawkes who was unsuccessful. Although the old guy idea may not be clear on who Eliot was addressing, the cultural background he mentions in his poem tells it all. A penny for the old guy uses poetic rhythms, themes and a clear setting to bring out its main idea. Repetition, rhyme and rhythm are all used in the poem which makes it one of the best poems to analyze.
Modernized piece of “the hollow men” (Eliot, 1979)
We are the hollow men
Stuffed together by our experiences
Growing together
Buried in our own world, Alas!
We live together
Whisper together
Left out together
And lack meaning together
Of us who made it
Did not make it to the end
They did not re-appear
They remained in distance
Like a fading star
