Introduction
Present occurrences cannot have meanings without having background information from which they are rooted. Economic, political and military ties between china and Russia has grown in the past few decades (Chase). This ties, which dates back to their first interaction in the 1600s has resulted to wars and ceasefires in equal measure. To date, western commentary on Russia China agreements and partnerships has been skeptical considering the long history of suspicion and hostility between the China and Russia (Hsiung). Officially Russia and Chinas initial contact dates back to the border clashes in the 1680s that was later resolved in 1689 by a treaty of Nerchinsk. The economic and political importance of the relations between these two nations is the significance of the history between this two countries (Hsiung). Through the body of this paper a detailed account of the history of the wars, ties and truces between the two countries will be in discussion.
The great Qing Empire, China
This empire was the largest political forming on the present day China. Its geographic coverage grew to engulf and displace the Ming Empire in 1644. Its population grew to half a billion people during this time. The empire not only comprised those who called themselves “Chinese” but also those who had not been incorporated into Chinese dynastic state, who included; Muslims, Uigur, Burmese, Tibetans among others (Rowe 1). In a gradual manner the entire period of 1550s to 1930s was seen by historians as a compact whole rather than seeing Qing as a representation of the past. Slowly through the last centuries Chinese history evolved through; urbanization of lower Yangzi region, use of money as a tool of trade, development of few regional trades, increase in literacy levels, commercialization of managerial activities to the republican period (Rowe 5)
