According to Christian Nordqvist in his article published on Saturday 30.06.2012 by medical news today, the Affordable Care Act popularly known as the Obamacare, or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama on 23.03. 2010. The central objective of the act was to protect existing health insurance policies as well as to improve the United States’ healthcare system via broadening health coverage to other Americans. Those who previously have health insurance in a range of legislative means will benefit from the policy since the insurance companies will not be able to withdraw coverage if they fall sick.
Being the application of the 10 knowledge areas, techniques, tools and skills to project actions to satisfy project requirements, project management is essential in all projects including the affordable care act to help enhance the effectiveness and value of the project. The 10 project management knowledge areas applied in various projects were also employed in this project to improve the quality of healthcare insurance for the American citizens. This paper discusses the 10 project management knowledge areas and the roles played in the Affordable Healthcare Act project.
The project integration management, to begin with, is a program that harmonizes the projects’ different knowledge areas by organizing and managing opposing alternatives and objectives to please the stakeholder. In so doing, the productive contact between a range of project knowledge areas and project process groups will be ensured. Project Integration Management was applied to incorporate the already existing federal health policy with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) prior to its take-over. This integration ensures an effective take-over by the PPACA from the previous policy. It makes possible the modifications in plans development, successive execution and the plan management.
