Over the last two centuries, life expectancy across the globe continue to rise. The population has equally multiplied with the world today, hosting over 7 billion people. According to some researchers, the world population growth and shooting up of life expectancy can be attributed to human technology. It is no doubt that previous scientists believed that as the population grows, the natural resources continue to deplete hence chances of extinction or decline of the population itself. However, according to Lähtinen, people today are better fed, clothed, and housed (1211). Lähtinen indicates that inflation-adjusted prices for both renewable and non-renewable resources are going down, meaning the perception of scarcity is a lie. He adds that in general, the global forests have expanded in the last 50 years (Lähtinen, P.1204). According to Lähtinen’s perception, with the rate of productivity, consumption, and population growth, a chunk of land equivalent to the size of the Amazonian basin may just be returned to an original natural state by the year 2070 (P. 1204).
It is crucial, however, to note that this idea is not shared by many scientists, including Jerry Taylor who has recently claimed that he was lied to in his early years. Over the years, scientists have argued that there are quick environmental degradation and climate change. In fact, according to reports by many scientists, for example, Johnston, a contributor at Independent, the effects of climate change are currently common: prolonged droughts, torrential downpours, melting of the ice, drying of the waterways among many others due to human destruction. In all fairness, in both the good and evil, it is clear that there exists human footprint on the environment – human-nature relationship.
