Is Capital Punishment Justifiable?
The society has to remain safe and justice must prevail and that is why the criminal justice system exists. Whenever offenders break the law, they have to receive the commensurate punishment. However, is capital punishment the way to go for violent and horrific crimes? Well, this is an important subject to explore. There has been controversy as to whether capital offenders should face the death penalty or not. Proponents of capital punishment assert that it is the best way of deterring violent crimes and punishing those convicted of such crimes. On the other hand, opponents of the death penalty insist that it is an inhumane act that goes against the fundamentals of the constitution (Monica & Maharukh, 1024). Through the lens of the constitution and the values that define civil liberties, capital punishment does not have any justification.
It Disregards Due Process of the Law
Whenever a person is going through trial for whatever criminal offense, there should be a fair application of due process. However, it is unfortunate that this is not the case for capital punishment. The fact that it is irrevocable means that there is no chance for a person to get justice in case of the need to reverse a conviction. There are people who get convicted while innocent
