Opportunity Assessment and Identification
Cambridge online dictionary defines a developing country as, and I will quote: “A country with little industrial and economic activity and where people generally have low incomes” CITATION Cam19 \l 1033 (Cambridge). Not to sound biased or something, it is inarguable and utterly true to affirm that most of the world’s developing countries are conspicuously located in the continent of Africa. Why Africa? Well, some people point out that African countries are least developed as a result of the delayed civilization that found its way to the continent more recently in the 19th and 20th centuries through massive European influence. Most, if not all, developing countries are synonymous with some or all of the following challenges: high poverty rates, high infant mortality rates, poor transport and communication, low literacy levels, low employment and high levels of corruption. It would not be a false claim to state that these challenges are largely to blame for the snail-paced economic development in developing countries of the world. This study strives to get into an in depth analysis of some of the challenges that developing countries are facing and have had a significant hindrance to economic development and prosperity. Additionally, following the analysis of the challenge, I will strive to identify opportunities that could be effective in re-framing the highlighted challenge. I will highlight in the proceeding paragraphs, through a selected developing country as the central point of reference throughout the study, a detailed opportunity assessment and identification report.
