Social Effects of using Cell Phones
Most innovations are two sided. There is always a good and a bad side and the cell phones are no exception to this rule. Many people find it difficult to believe that there was a time when cell phones did not exist. Back then, letters were used to pass messages across even before the telephones were introduced. Initially, telephones were only used for voice calls and people would only receive calls if they were near the receiver. Then there were the cell phones. These could make or receive calls and send text messages to most parts of the world. With the cell phones, it was easier to write a text message than to hand write a note as it was before (Gordon 24). With time, the level of use of cell phones has increased especially with the introduction of more features. The cell phone technology is a double-edged innovation that has had both positive and negative effects on the human behavior.
Cell phones are among the most innovative gadgets of the 20th century. Traditionally, people relied on cumbersome methods to convey information and data over long distance, which usually made the communication process futile and slow. The ability to communicate deferred from one society to another and some societies had an advantage over others due to their superior methods of communication (Agar 46).
