Unarguably, Folsom State Prison is one of the most popular attractions in Northern Carolina, and one of the most renowned appellations of the Folsom community. Launched in 1880, the prison is one of the banal correctional amenities in the state. The prison has been a site of numerous incidents and reforms, making a fertile source of historical significance. In recent times, however, the State prison scene has seen increased prisoner populations, with inferential scarcity of both resources and staff to manage such facilities and keep the prisoner populations in check. Moreover, there has been a decline in the number of state prisons, with an upsurge of Federal prisons. This treatise, therefore, explores Folsom throughout the years, tracing aspects such as historical prisoner records to show increased inmate populations. In addition, this essay will slightly divulge by shinning a light on the commendable aspects of the prisons, such as its use a site for movie shoots, as well as Johnny Cash’s album, Live at Folsom Prison, which he recorded during his famous visit to the prison in 1968.
