HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR’S SPEECH DURING THE 2018 COOPERATIVES DAY

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with profound pride that I stand before you all to celebrate the 96th International Cooperative Day and the gains of the cooperative movement both within our county and indeed in the national level. The theme of this year’s Cooperative Day is Sustainable consumption of goods and services, whose main emphasis is on protecting our environment while we grow our societies.
I believe in the synergy of cooperative societies, and I believe that every adult citizen of Nyandarua should belong to at least one cooperative society- every citizen should be a co-operator. As an avid believer in the cooperative model, I made sure to greatly empower our cooperatives in my manifesto through trainings and capacity building, as well as through promotion of our weak cooperatives. As promised in my manifesto, work has already began to recruit more than 4,000 BodaBoda operators to form cooperative societies and embrace a saving culture. This will not only allow the more than 1,000 new members of BodaBoda societies to leverage on the collective strength of the society in terms of insulation from the external environment, but to also access credit to grow themselves and improve the livelihood of their families.
At this point ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note and appreciate the very vibrant local cooperative movement, and in addition pass my warmest regards to every society leader, every oversight or regulatory body, all alliances and cooperatives ambassadors, every cooperative society member, every contributing stakeholder, and to every citizen of Nyandarua who have created an enabling environment for the cooperative wave to flourish.
