Many aspects of communication have remained the same in terms of content. At the same time communication remains a pivotal social adhesive that still holds, corporations, families, nations, and scientific disciplines together. Social scientist Karl Weick (1980), once remarked that for any effective leadership to be achieved, the management of eloquence is an essential tool in ensuring fluent, moving and forceful expressions, since expressions influence the way followers interpret information, speak and react towards a communication stimuli. On the other hand communication also remains problematic due to misunderstandings and disagreements that lead to conflicts. Incidentally, misunderstandings in communication claims a large percentage of fatal accidents one among them being the Three Mile Island nuclear accident that occurred in the US. Additionally, with the rapid development in communication technology, the process of communication has not been made easier, ethical or effective. The new technology has spawned forms of communication that to some extend are inadequate in dealing with communication issues. Issues such as information overload emanating from multiple sources, too little information, cyber insecurity, misleading information and disruptive innovations are issues that militate against good use of technology to facilitate adequate, effective and timely communication process.
The 21st century has been confronted by complex problems, which are mainly propagated by advanced technologies especially in communication. Such complex challenges require methodical mitigating approaches and analysis to arrive at thoughtful reflections and remedies. Analyzing the challenges posed by technology on communication is difficult because such impacts do not only involve technological aspects but also epistemological factors. This is because the main component of communication technology is data, information and knowledge. It is undeniable that technology has propelled communication to unparallel levels, enabling people to receive, process, interpret, store, use, understand create and dispatch information at unprecedented speed never witnessed in the history of mankind. Although the impact of new technology is obvious, they range from the subtle to the most radical. Some of the new technological that have impacted the process of communication include, the emergence of internet both in the computers and mobile phones. Some of these technological issues include;
