INTRODUCTION
Unilever is a global consumer goods firm with a history dating back over a century. It is a global brand with representation in over 190 countries and over 400 household name items. Unilever is a pioneer in sustainable business, and its operations have been recognized for adhering to environmental guidelines (Unilever, 2022).
Countries' industrial revolutions have resulted in increased greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change. One of the most pressing ecological and socioeconomic issues of the twenty-first century is climate change (Dietz et. al., 2020). Climate change has a direct impact on sustainable development, which affects a country's economic development (Ozyuksel et. al., 2016). Some consequences of climate change are high temperatures and lower rainfalls (Nielson and Brock, 2009). Lower rainfall has an impact on agricultural production, putting food security and the labor force at risk.
Globally, countries have attempted to develop an alternate model of growth that does not rely on an abundant source of fossil fuels, divorcing emissions growth from economic expansion, often under the banners of 'green capitalism,' the 'green economy,' 'green growth,' and, currently 'clean growth' (O’Manique, 2017).
According to Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the UK has made substantial progress in clean growth. In 2016, the UK produced 47 percent of its power from low-carbon sources, with the world's greatest installed wind capacity. While the economy grew by two-thirds, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 47%. In comparison to 2000, England recycled approximately four times as much. Automobile emissions have decreased as a result of advancements in engine technology.
The United Kingdom (UK) government has prioritized climate change by implementing laws and programs to tackle same and ensure clean growth. The Climate Change Act (2008) was passed by parliament to reduce emissions and prepare for the impact of climate change. The Act sets a Net Zero target of greenhouse gas emission by 2050. It also directs the government to conduct climate change risk assessments, carbon budgets, and a national adaptation program, as well as establish a committee to track climate change progress.
On the back of the Climate Change Act (2008), the Clean Growth Strategy was developed in 2017. The goal of the UK's clean growth policy is to increase national wealth while lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The approach is:
* Maximize the social and economic benefits for the UK from this transition.
* At the lowest possible net cost to the UK taxpayer, consumers, and companies, meet domestic obligations.
The manufacturing sector is the one with the biggest carbon impact (Kucukvar et. al, 2015). The goal
