The case study of Tim Bosma, a 32-year-old man who was killed by two men from Ontario, Dellen Millard, and Mark Smich, shows the possibility of criminal activity being either a choice or a matter of psychopathy. The two accused men noted the advert by Tim Bosma and asked to buy the truck on sale. They later asked to go on a test drive where they killed the victim. Tim Bosma never went back home. From the history of the two men, criminal activity was not news. The case study begs the question of whether the illegal activity is a rational choice or a psychopathy trait. The research seeks to define the difference between the driving forces of criminal activity and specifically, the choice and psychopathy traits of individuals.
Looking at the rational choice theory of crime, it is easy to conclude that criminal activity is a personal choice. The theory elaborates that, illegal activity is as a result of a thought and action. The view is that idea, and the motion is the execution of the act. Most criminals plan for any activity they execute (Eriksson, 2011). The criminals plan on how they attack, complete, and escape (Curran & Renzetti, 2007).
