Worldwide View Role Model: Richard Dawkins Name Course Tutor Date Introduction Richard Dawkins is a well respected speaker and Oxford biologist with a belief that there is no supernatural being or God for that matter. He was born in Kenya and his parents later moved to England. He was raised in a Christian way, and remained a Christian until his teenage years. It is at his teenage years that he learnt about the evolution theory. Due to the complexity in his thinking, the evolution theory seemed to better explain humanity complexity than the one he had previously introduced to, the creationism theory. Dawkins embraced the natural selection theory as an explanation that is adequate for the complexity and beauty of life (Dawkins, 2009). His views and feelings about social issues, family and the nature of God are represented in his worldview. This article with compare and contrast his actions and values with my own. I will also give reasons and explain as to why I believe Dawkins acted as a role model in regards to not all but some of the topics and could definitely be other people's role model. Family  The worldview of Dawkins is evident in his view of the family unit. Been raised a Christian and never finding any satisfaction with its explanations. At the age of nine, he leant that Christianity was not the only religion and that all religions contracted with each other. He holds a belief that a parent influencing their child to have the same belief as them is a form of child abuse. A child he believes should be encouraged from a tender age to think and make religious decisions by themselves. He also believes that morals and good ethics have nothing to do with religion nor are they learnt from the Bible. He believes that children can be taught good morals and ethics without having any fear for God (Dawkins, 1995). He also emphasizes in success. Dawkins believes that religion should not dictate birth control and that people should be allowed to use it if they want to. He blames poverty which is as a result of overpopulation to religion (Dawkins, 2009). The family values I have slightly resemble his in the view that children should be let to do what is right and honest without necessarily influencing their views. It is very important to assist children succeed and lead a humble life and hold high moral standards. However, I believe that the Bible sets the moral standards needed that they were solidified by the example of Jesus Christ. I agree partially with the use of birth control because unplanned child birth bring with it irresponsibility. This should be regulated and allowed only for the married couples. God's Nature Dawkins belief is that God there has to be evidence that God does actually exist. He asks who the designer of the divine creator is. He expects that there be traces of evidence in functionality and shapes of the universe that God created them. He does not believe God as the ultimate creator of human beings. To him, the evolution theory makes more sense as there is something human beings evolved from. The Biblical God who is omnipotent and omniscient is to Dawkins impossible. It is easier to understand that there is a universe without a God than one which has a God. To Dawkins, everything that happens is a matter of luck and that morality is gained from the process of evolution. His worldview is that there was no designer or overseer in creation of the universe. He also believes that the moral value and ethics people have have nothing to do with God (Dawkins, 2006). I believe that there is a God and that everything was created by Him. The God of the Bible is not a created God but an eternal God. He is also omnipotent and omniscient, He sees everything, is all knowing, and hears everything and most importantly he has authority over everything. This means that he does know everything that happens. Social Issues Dawkins believes that children have a right to do what they feel is right and the parents should never dictate whatever their children choose to do. He believes that a parent dictating the lives of their children is child abuse. Dawkins also supports the use of birth control and believes that people should use it in order to control the population and escape poverty. The fact that Christians oppose to the use of birth control he says has caused poverty in the world.
