Jiffy Lube Inc. provides vehicle preventive and maintenance services to approximately 22 million customers across North America. The company operates over 2000 franchises across North America. The company’s success in the oil service industry can be attributed to various sustainability practices implemented by the company. Sustainability practices adopted by the company relate to customers, community, environment, employees, product and service, and customer service.
Sustainability of the Community
Jiffy Lube is committed to maintaining a sustainable community. Over the years, Jiffy Lube has engaged in a number of service delivery initiatives that touch on various aspects within the community. The company values the community within which it operates. For this reason, it has been investing considerable resources to ensure the community remains sustainable. An example of commitment to community sustainability is the company’s partnership with the local Humane Society. The company’s partnership with Humane Society facilitated a recent charitable drive in the Henderson area. The charitable drive provided an opportunity for the residents of the greater Las Vegas and Henderson region to collaborate with the company and make a real difference to the lives of residents within the surrounding communities. The charitable drive did not only benefit the community, but also enabled the company to showcase the changes it has made for its customers (Banke 1). Besides the charitable activities, the company has donated funds to finance different kitties within the community. Besides offering donations and making contributions to charity sweepstakes, the company has continued to provide support and sustenance to the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society. Jiffy Lube’s campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is another recent example of community sustainability initiative. The campaign aimed at providing support funds to assist over one million Americans suffering from neuromuscular diseases. The company continues to advocate the appropriate maintenance of the vehicle and ensures there is no leaking of emissions and gases that could adversely affect the environment. Sustainability of Employees
Jiffy Lube values its employees and equates them to valuable resources. Therefore, sustaining the employee forms part of its utmost sustainability practices. The company has over 20,000 highly skilled and trained, certified technicians distributed across various service centers in North America. The employee's sustainability is through excellent training and compensation systems. According to Banke et al. (1), every individual employee at Jiffy Lube is required to undergo and complete an extensive training program in order to gain recognition as an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified service provider (Freifeld 35). In addition, the company also has the Jiffy Lube University (JLU), a training program that incorporates modern computer-based procedures and proficiency examination.
