Reflection on Stewardship Article
In the article, The Stewardship of CreationButkus alludes that stewardship is the management of what God has given the world and to the edification of others. The term is variously used to refer to a spectrum of actions ranging from reafforestation, limiting the use of harmful chemicals, and producing sustainable products. One of the factors contributing to rampant human suffering in terms of, for instance, a surge in birth deformities, cancerous tumors, and psychiatric diseases is the indiscriminate manufacturing of herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides that have adverse effects on the body. Depending on the level of exposure to these toxic compounds, the victims may experience mild to chronic health complications.
Biblically, Adam was the first steward of God’s creation. Given that creation is not a one-off event but rather a continuous one, humans are responsible for ensuring sustenance. Moreover, they should contribute to addressing the emerging crisis in the ecosystem. Part of these expectations can be accomplished by manufacturing chemicals that promote the wellbeing of the global population in plant and animal entirety. Butkus recognizes both Genesis 1 andPsalms 8 as outstanding examples of the role of humans in stewardship
