Introduction
The main medical role of class stimulant drugs is the treatment of the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as they cause an increase of activity of the central nervous system. Thus, they reduce or eliminate the major features associated with ADHD like hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity (Sherzada, 2012). In addition, there has been a recent increase in the inappropriate use of these stimulant drugs since it believed to lead to cognitive enhancement. Healthy students and athletes use these drugs to increase their academic and sports performance respectively (Lakhan et al, 2012).
An individual suffering from ADHD has an increased probability of academic failure and impairment is social and family setting. It also results in the impaired peer relationship, driving problem, impulsive sexuality and the impaired relationship among peers. The untreated ADHD may result to increment of psychological disorders like bipolar disease, depression anomaly, and antisocial personality among others (Lakhan et al. 2012). Therefore, stimulants, which include amphetamine and methylphenidate, play a significant role in the treatment of this disorder as it estimated to have a prevalence of 3.5% to 4.5% among the adults and 5% to 10% among the children (Kollins, 2007).
