1 When it comes to selecting a topic, a researcher must look for a topic that first interest him or her. The second consideration should be to check on who will provide the required information. The third question should be on what are the major questions that will guide the research and why is the topic important to the community (Mlingo, 2016)
2 According to Mlingo (2016), a research problem is an existing gap in knowledge that a researcher aims to address using specific scientific research
3 A research problem can be stated either in a descriptive manner where a specific question is created with the underlying purpose of describing the situation or it can be stated in a relational manner where the relationship between two specific variables is investigated (Mlingo, 2016).
4 The guideline for formulating a good research problem involves identifying the general area of interest. The second is learning about the problem. The third is reviewing the information about the topic. Fourth is determining the relationship between variables (Mlingo, 2016). Fifth is selecting and including the necessary variables and finally receiving the feedback and revising the statement accordingly.
5 Some of the characteristics of a good research problem include the following: it is stated clearly and concisely, it can generate research questions, it is based on theory, it is related to more than one field of academic study and it achieves its purposes (Mlingo, 2016).
6 Research problems can be sourced through interviews, individual experiences, deductions from theories, and a review of relevant literature (Mlingo, 2016)
7 A research thesis is a guiding sentence that gives the position of any scientific paper. It gives the direction that a paper will take and thus it should be precise.
8 When it comes to a research thesis it has severe benefits which include it helps pursue interest and developing crucial skills and the second is developing the needed reasoning skills which are required in a research paper (Mlingo, 2016). The thesis also acts as the guiding line that gives the researcher the specific area that is needed when handling a specific study.
9 When writing a research thesis, the following points should be considered. The first is the audience who will consume or read the paper. The second is the purpose or the intention of the paper. The third is the organization and the style of the paper (Mlingo, 2016). The last consideration is the flow and presentation of the said paper.
10 A research question should be clear and focused. It should also pose the following traits not too broad or too narrow. It should be researchable. Lastly, it should analytical rather than being descriptive (Mlingo, 2016).
