Kelly, T. (2018). Perspective: Is bipolar disorder being overdiagnosed? International Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research, 27(3). https://doi.org/10.1002/mpr.1725
According to the findings of Kelly, (2018), bipolar disorders are significantly underdiagnosed in countries that have not prioritized mental health. Nevertheless, during the years 2007 and 2008, several publications in America suggested that people with bipolar illnesses were receiving an excessive number of diagnoses. A search of published works was conducted to find research that had unique data and was connected to the overdiagnosis of bipolar illnesses. Four studies were discovered that suggested that people with bipolar illnesses were being misdiagnosed.
The investigations compared the reliability of a diagnosis given by a treating psychiatrist to the reliability of a SCID diagnosis obtained with very minimal input from the clinician. This information provides critical information that can be used to gather data on the prevalence of mental disorders and how the conditions are treated in America.
Merten, E. C., Cwik, J. C., Margraf, J., & Schneider, S. (2017). Overdiagnosis of mental disorders in children and adolescents (in developed countries). Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health, 11(1). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13034-016-0140-5
Merten et al. (2017) discuss various mental disease diagnoses in children and adolescents in this publication. The authors have pointed out that mental diseases have increased significantly during the preceding 50 years. There are conflicting findings in epidemiological studies on the impact of time trends on the occurrence of mental illnesses. A rise in the frequency of inaccurate diagnoses in clinical practice is thought to be the cause of this problem. Merten et al. (2017) did a thorough review of the research on how often mental illnesses are wrongly diagnosed in children and teens. The findings included a number of pending damage claims that were presented in various courts in America.
There has been a lot of research on the overdiagnosis of mental disorders in children and teens, but this research has focused majorly on the root problem. The results of this study show that ADHD is too often given to patients. The findings of this paper can be applied in developing a research paper that mostly focuses on the causes of mental disorders among the youthful generation.
Thombs, B., Turner, K., & Shrier, I. (2019). Defining and Evaluating Overdiagnosis in Mental Health: A Meta-Research Review. Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 88(4), 193–202. https://doi.org/10.1159/000501647
Thombs et al. (2019) have delivered comprehensive research material that focuses on the problem of overdiagnosis in mental healthcare. It is believed that overdiagnosis is prevalent in several mental diseases; nevertheless, the phenomenon has neither been defined nor investigated systematically. To evaluate overdiagnosis in mental health, Thombs et al., (
