Grinch's Personality (Article Sample)

Instructions:

The movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas depicts Grinch as a vengeful and reclusive individual whose past was full of rejection and disapproval. From a behavioural perspective, the Grinch developed this personality as a result of his childhood experiences. The operant conditioning theory supported by the Skinner Box experiments revealed that individuals generally adopt behaviours that lead to positive consequences and drop those that those attract negative reinforcements (Staddon & Cerutti, 2003). Noteworthy, personality is a summation of the predictable behavioural patterns of an individual (Geukes et al., 2017). As such, behavioural psychologists would argue that the Grinch developed his vengeful attitude and preference for solitude due to the rejection he faced as a child. This argument is asserted by the concept of reciprocal determinism that argues that the environment affects an individual’s behaviour (Bergman et al., 2019). Conversely, an individual’s behaviour also affects the environment.
