67TH EMMY AWARDS
Emmy award is and has always been a trending topic whenever it is being carried out. Americans have always glued their eyes to the screens to follow and see their favorite stars being awarded for a job well performed. Emmy Awards always bring the real picture of the field of arts and film. Since its initiation in January 1949, Emmy Awards have always had lots of surprises, snubs and topics of discussion.
Some of the main topics of discussion in the 2015 Emmy awards was the issue of diversity and transgender awareness. Various nominees and winners took some of their little time to address the issues and show support for the transgender community. Transgender has always been a development in the United States with over the years many transgender Americans coming out. The emotional speech given by Jill Salloway after the win of directing the "transparent" was a clear note of the improvement of the civil rights of the transgender community. Racism was also a clear discussion noted. The host Andy Samberg stated that racism is a forgone case, but could not resist stating "Donald Trump seems racist. The remark has since angered some conservatives with some expressing their discontent on Twitter.
A lot of expectations of the Americans and the world were either thwarted or met. It is in the 67th Emmy awards that the first African- American, Viola Davis, won lead drama actress. Viola Davis in her acceptance speech reminded the audience of the famous Harriet Tubman quote about getting over the line. She clearly insinuated that, with opportunity anybody and everybody especially the women of color can do amazing stuff. Among the other major surprises of the night was the domination and record setting of "game of thrones" for amassing the most Emmy win in a year. The biggest surprise was the emotional return of Tracy Morgan to the Hollywood scene after a full year absence due to injury.
