Scenario: Sexual Harassment in Nursing
Sexual harassment is defined as any unwelcome or offensive sex-based behavior directed to someone at a workplace (Ross et al., 2019). In this scenario, Linda Dole, an adult nurse practitioner, is the victim of sexual harassment while Dr. Larry Boxer is the perpetrator. Linda has perceived the harassment to have taken place in the last four weeks, where Dr. Boxer has been making verbal remarks and asking for sexual favors. Quid Pro Quo is a scenario where sexual harassment happens in exchange for something else. This type usually happens when a supervisor or a higher-ranking colleague demands sexual favors in return for favoritism at work (Ross et al., 2019). Hostile environment type is when a colleague, be it of a higher or lower ranking, makes an inappropriate poster, jokes, or allusive remarks towards another person at a workplace (Ross et al., 2019). The latter type could also come from third parties such as clients, patients, and vendors.
