Objective 1: Explore measures being undertaken by the devolved governance institutions in achieving social integration in Kenya.
In a case study by Munene (2016) named "Urban resilience in Nairobi," the role of civil society in policy and action for urban resilience in Nairobi, Kenya, will be explored during the transition to a new form of devolved governance. It explores the relationship of civil society with the environment and risk studies and analyses how Kenya's shifted management has influenced civil society's capacity to play its part in the cycle. The research describes eleven civil society positions in urban reconstruction through primary informant interviews with civil society members, the private sector, and the government.
It concludes that a robust legislative framework alone is not adequate to enable the participation of the civil society in urban resilience building. It argues for building the civil society’s capacity to engage with both the concept or urban resilience and the new devolved system of governance.
