Corporate Changes in the New Korean Business Landscape
There are multiple institutional factors that are driving changes in the Korean business culture. In the provided case study, the increase in the number of younger office employees is one of the main changes. With the new generations in the office landscape, there is a change in the way employees dress in the office from the rigid ‘official looks’ to the casual dressing styles. The case provides an example of Lee Wook-jae who has dyed his hair and dresses in an open-necked shirt at the office (Cullen, & Parboteeah, 2013). This has become more acceptable in the offices. Additionally, the rise of internet start-ups has made the business landscape dynamic. With the Asian economic crisis of the late 1990s, the prospects of working for a single company for one’s entire career are no longer valued. There has also been a change in management styles, human resource management and the decision-making processes.
