Summary Overview
Long shifts and working hours tend to be an evident issue for nurses in the region of the United States. Approximately 73% of the nurses are forced to work 12-hour shifts. Major drawbacks of long working hours include less sleep and fatigue. The proposed study aims to explore effective strategies that can help in dealing with long working hours for nurses in the United States. The past research studies explored that long shifts seem to produce negative outcomes for the nurses. The proposed research methodology involves carrying out quantitative research through the use of a questionnaire. A survey will be conducted with 100 nurses working in a healthcare facility. The ethics will be considered while conducting the study. The participants will be allowed to withdraw from the study at any point. Further, plagiarism will be avoided, as it is a serious offense. The proposed study can be considered effective, as it will help to minimize the impacts of long shifts on the lives of nurses. This study may further contribute to the literature, as it will include certain strategies for dealing with issues pertaining to nurses.

Stimpfel, Sloane & Aiken (2012) highlighted that long shifts and working hours tend to be an evident issue for nurses in the region of the United States. The effects of long shifts tend to be devastating for the nurses and other healthcare professionals. Some of the negative impacts of long working hours are fatigue, less sleep, diabetes, and chronic illnesses. Effective strategies should be formulated, which have a strong focus on dealing with long shifts of nurses.

The above figure clearly highlights that around 56% of caregivers work for 40 hours or more in the region of the United States. This can be considered an alarming situation, both for male and female caregivers (nurses). There is a need to come up with effective strategies that strongly focuses on dealing with long working hours for nurses. It has been observed that the utilization of techniques may prove beneficial in reducing issues up to a certain level. The proposed study is aimed to explore effective strategies in order to deal with long working hours and shifts for nurses in the region of the United States.
