Define the term.
1 Healthcare-associated infections (HAI)
Also known as nosocomial or hospital infection, HAI is an infection that patients may contract during their time in a hospital or any other health care facility while undergoing treatment for other conditions (World Health Organization 2017).
2 Morbidity
According to the National Cancer Institute, morbidity is a medical problem caused by treatment (NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms n.d). In another definition, it refers to all the people affected by a particular disease in a given population
3 Mortality
National Cancer Institute defines mortality as a term used to describe the death rate in a specific group of people over a certain period. It may also refer to the number of deaths per person who has a specific disease.
4 Surgical Site Infection (SSI)
When a patient has undergone surgery, sometimes the body where the surgery took place may be infected. Such an infection is called SSI. (CDC, 2019).
