1) In this Ted Talk by Johan Harri, some very progressive assumptions and claims were made in reference to addiction. How does he define addiction? Based on his studies, he concludes that the way we treat/deal with addicts and drug dependence is not effective. Why? Describe your thoughts and opinions on this subject. Twelve years ago, Portugal did away with criminal penalties regarding drug users because those who were caught with marijuana and cocaine in a small amount would go unindicted and possession, which is a misdemeanor with illegal parking. Based on this study by Jonah Harri, drug addiction is defined as a societal attitude towards drugs that is based on decade's research and has been debunked, it's based on key elements such as drug users and people will stop using drugs if punished (Singh, R. 2014). Jonah Harri vie on how we deal with drug addicts was wrong since the best solution would be referring them to treatment rather than forcing them if they are willing to be treated; they would go by themselves. The classmates suggested that forcing addicts for treatment is wrong, and those who are eager would go leading the success rate to be high (Wright, J. 2018). Further class discussion suggested that discrimination do not increase the rate of drug use , and do not imply that drugs have been legalized in Portugal though it's not considered a crime.
