Relationship of Spirit and Life
Craigie (2010) indicates that spirituality is embodied in everything that we do. In health care, practitioners are informed and guided by how they perceive and understand themselves, which give sense to a life of vocation, mission, and calling. Therefore, Craigie (2010) suggests that spirit is calm, time-urgent, compassionate, honoring, welcoming, analytical, love, businesslike, safety, and caring. These are some of the traits that make the patients tell their story because as indicated by Craigie (2010), part of the healing process is telling a story no matter how difficult. When a practitioner actively listens to a patient, maintains eye contact and physical distance are an embodiment of the spirit that is important to a healing process.
I think that the perception of Craigie (2010) on spirit and life is an integral part of creating life experiences and helping the patients in a recovery process. The encounters that the writer had with the participants are enough proof that spirituality improves the quality of life. Listening to people and actively suggesting things that they can do to overcome difficult situations such as volunteering is part of improving quality of life. When patients talk to practitioners and they actively engage in activities such as physical activities, prayers, meditation, or even participating in religious activities. These activities significantly improve the life of the patient through increased concentration, reduction of sedentary-related illnesses, and improved muscular strength.
