Deinstitutionalization can be defined as the process by which hospitals and caregiving institutions reduce the number of beds to eliminate some of the people in the institutions (Novella, 2010). This process was meant to be for the good of the mentally challenged people as they would be sent home near their loved ones which seemed to improve their health. It was also aiming at providing the people with living skills. This paper will talk about deinstitutionalization and some of the ways of helping these patients transition from institution to outside life.
