Child maltreatment refers to the act of neglect and abuse subjected to young people under the age of 18 years (Kohrt, 2013). Notably, actions such as physical abuse, neglect, emotional maltreatment, witnessing family violence, and sexual abuse constitute child maltreatment. Caregivers, parents usually perpetrate it, and other adults intentionally or unintentionally. The issue of child maltreatment has attracted global attention, and numerous countries have enacted legislation under children’s rights to curb the vice. The paper explores the detrimental consequences of child maltreatment.
