CPST Final Paper Proposal
Daichi Iyama
B00707968
This project proposal shall elaborate on Human cloning and the underlying
moral and ethical implications. Cloning has been a prominent subject of debate, especially in
recent years. Cloning, like any other recent technological advancement, was at one point in
time, seen as seemingly impossible. The idea gained ground since it was expressed in science-
fiction movies of the previous century. Since then, there have been numerous attempts at
cloning a multitude of animals and, quite unsurprisingly, humans as well. Human cloning,
however, has been banned due to ethical reasons and has been a source of almost endless
controversy and debate. The same could have been said for animal cloning, if it wasn’t for the
fact that this can be particularly advantageous for one reason: extinct species such as the dodo
and the Tasmanian tiger can be brought back to life. One speck of a DNA sample is enough to
achieve this miracle, considering the strives that have been made in the past few decades in the
realm of biotechnology. Unfortunately, there still seems to be one major flaw that hinders the
perfection of cloning techniques in general; the clones made so far haven’t been able to live up
to their expected lifespan. As far as cloning humans is concerned, the reasons that have been
stated to justify it do not comply in the least with basic human rights.
This topic has many such facets, however, only the significant ones such as those discussed
earlier shall be addressed. Each possibility will be analyzed in detail. After a comparison of all
the aspects involved, a conclusion will be reached that shall summarize the contents and use
the evidence provided by the referenced sources. The bibliography for the sources that shall be
used to aid in this research is listed below.

Pros and Cons of Human Cloning.
Human cloning is the process of creating a genetically identical copy of a human. It also refers to the practice of creating copies of cells and body tissues of a human being. Human cloning is an issue of great controversy in the world today. The controversy surrounding human cloning has created divisions among various groups of people including world leaders, medical practitioners, human activists, religious leaders and the general public. Some people have supported the idea of human cloning, arguing that it would be beneficial to the human race while others have come out against human cloning, arguing that it would be detrimental to humankind. There are two sides of the same coin and human cloning is no exception.
First of all, human cloning would help childless couples have children. Francisco Ayala (2015) makes a statement in support of human cloning in cases which it would help couples who are unable to have children through natural means. Such couples include same-sex couples or couples with infertility. Indeed, human cloning would make it possible for such couples to have children as only the genotype of one of the couples would be required to clone children. Basically, cloning technology would enable anyone to have a child at will. Same-sex couples, those opting to remain unmarried and even people unable to have children due to infertility will all be able to have children through human cloning.
