Molecular biology, the field of science concerned with studying the chemical structures and processes of biological phenomena that involve the basic units of life, molecules (Britannica, 2020). This field mainly focuses on nucleic acids like DNA and RNA. Molecular biology has aided a lot in the comprehension of relationships that are evolutionary on the basis of traditional anatomy. The science of classification is known as taxonomy. For instance, the classification of ferns was mainly based on morphological characteristics, but new technologies like the use of the electron microscope to scan have allowed us to study spore patterns and structures in detail, and other close-up functions.
DNA technology has really helped scientists to create a classification scheme that is more accurate. According to Watson et al. (2014), scientists must carefully study the past and current state of classification to understand DNA and molecular biology's future impacts. New DNA technology has presented an opportunity for DNA sequencing and viewing the nucleotides patterns in the DNA. This, therefore, presents an opportunity for a better technique in the determination of how different species can be related. Taxonomy has been based on morphology for quite some time. That means that classification was being done on the basis of physical features like color, shape size, among others. Developing technologies like DNA barcoding has had a lot of influence on classification. A DNA barcode is a molecule sequence contained in a particular DNA stretch. Molecular biology tries to comprehend the structure of biological macromolecules which has three dimensions by employing techniques like X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy.
The information contained in the DNA is crucial when creating a classification system that is accurate by offering a chance for the description of specific relationships between organisms. DNA technology helps in the elimination of any ambiguous similarities or differences in the classification scheme (Cheung et al., 2018). This gives scientists an opportunity for illustrating how organisms are similar or different genetically more accurately based on grouping organisms on the basis of their genomes and assigning them similarity codes. Developments in technology in molecular biology have reached a level where there is a possibility of storing huge amounts of DNA databases and resynthesizing the DNA. In the future, it will be possible to capture the DNA sequence of organisms digitally, creating a common ground for reconstructing genomes by synthesizing them chemically.
DNA and molecular biology have various influences on the future of evolutionary classification. Through both, it is easy to set up the lineage and how organisms are related based on what constitutes their genetics. And the protein forms that accompany them. Comparison of the nucleotide sequences that organisms have helps in analyzing the unknown similarities and differences (Schaeffer et al., 2017). DNA reinforces the adoption of schemes in classification through the study of molecular bio
