Review the following quote *(from Jeff Bezos) found in the case study, and comment on the wide variety of technologies employed in Amazon’s operations. Focus on how these technologies act as strengths and contribute to competitive success. We use high-performance transactions systems, complex rendering and object caching, workflow and queuing systems, business intelligence and data analytics, machine learning and pattern recognition, neural networks and probabilistic decision making, and a wide variety of other techniques[. . .]. Many of the problems we face have no textbook solutions, and so we—happily—invent new approaches. How Technology Contributes to Amazon’s Competitive Success
Amazon's operations rely heavily on technology, which has enabled the company to achieve a competitive advantage. During its early days, Amazons differentiated itself as an internet-based book retailer, and its online platform helped customers with its simplified review and search features (Qumer & Purkayastha, 2016). Over the years, numerous features have been added to the platform to enhance the customer's experience. Today, Amazon’s supply chain is digitally driven, with the company adopting advanced technology. The company has also installed robots in its warehouses to ensure fast delivery of products to customers (Qumer & Purkayastha, 2016).
Furthermore, Amazon utilizes technology in its marketing strategy. The company focuses on online marketing channels to attract customers (Qumer & Purkayastha, 2016). Amazon has also leveraged its data resources by integrating its customer recommendation system with the purchasing system (Qumer & Purkayastha, 2016). The integration has set the stage for personalized recommendations, whereby the online platform suggests books to registered users based on their past purchases. Amazon also utilizes technology in its delivery system. For instance, in 2013, the firm unveiled a drone-based delivery system that delivers packages to customers' homes in urban areas (Qumer & Purkayastha, 2016).
